MTC Motorsport Gen 2 Mini Cooper S R56 R57 1.6T Front Mount Intercooler with Bar and Plate Core 2007-2012.

  • The MTC intercooler features a massive 80mm bottom core and 40mm at the top for maximum surface area with flowed cast end tanks. It has a 53mm OD inlet and outlet
  • This intercooler will massively improve throttle response in comparison to the standard intercooler
  • These cores are tested individually to 3 bar and are proven to flow 400bhp without any problems.
  • Finished powder coated in black
We have engineered these intercoolers using the same bar and plate core that we use on all of our other intercoolers as this is the most efficient way of keeping intake temperatures to a minimum and recently completely re designed the intercooler with cast end tanks and much stronger brackets for perfect mounting on the vehicle. 

We have tested our newly designed intercooler on a few vehicles and found they have absolutely fantastic results. The IAT compared to the standard intercooler are reduced massively which means you get consistent increased performance.

The standard intercooler and the MTC intercooler both had intercooler intake temperatures of between 125-140 degrees through 3 runs on the road.

At the other side of the intercooler into the engine the standard intercooler temperatures were around 55 degrees whereas the MTC intercooler temperatures were between 15-18 degrees over all 3, 4th gear pulls on the road with 8 degree outside temperature.

It is very easy to fit as it is a direct replacement. There are also some great videos on YouTube to follow. Fitting should take around 1-2 hours. There is no drilling required although it may require some trimming of the lower grill on some models.

We would go as far as to say these are the best intercooler on the market for the Mini Cooper S R56 R57 1.6T and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Great intercooler, fiddly fit

Fitted to a pre-facelift (2008) R56 JCW.

Negative: Needs both the grille and the bumper chopped in places (not just the lugs on the bumper, but about 6-7 mm from the lower edge of the grille opening on the bumper at both sides of the intercooler), and the offside stud on the JCW badge needs to be cut off (I re-secured the badge with some Stixall). The grille, bumper and badge stud hit the intercooler and the bumper can't be fitted back on without the all the cutting as the bottom two screws and 3 plastic clips to secure the bumper won't line up with their mounting holes.

Positive: Technically awesome intercooler! Fantastic build quality! Noticeable difference in performance straight off, so expecting a lot more once it's been remapped!

nice bit of kit!

Fitted to R58 JCW. Needed to file down the grille in a couple of places where it rubbed the end tanks, but along with the two silicone pipes, my Scangauge is seemingly showing intake temps only a couple of degrees above ambient.
